ALAN JONES
Legal Qualifications
Alan Jones graduated from London University with a law degree (LLB) in 1969. He then attended Law School passing the Law Society examinations and completed two years further legal training in London. He qualified as a Solicitor in 1972.
Professional Career
During his subsequent professional career he taught law at university for two years, worked as an in house lawyer with an airline for nearly ten years was a commercial law partner with a large English law firm for several years and during the last years of his legal career he ran his own practice.
Legal specialisms
He has specialised in business and commercial law with particular emphasis on work with the aviation, travel and tourism sectors including commercial contract and procurement issues. He has attended the Royal Aeronautical Society’s Air Transport course held at Oxford and subsequently became a member of the Society. He has also given numerous presentations on legal issues at workshops and conferences.
Voluntary work
In addition to his legal career he has also undertaken voluntary help in teaching literacy to disadvantaged adults as well as mentoring vulnerable young people. He is now a board member of a multicultural charity in Brighton
Teaching
In 2006 he decided to give up his legal practice and to subsequently concentrate on teaching English to overseas lawyers and aviation professionals He took a course at Sussex University in teaching English as a second language and obtained a CertTesol) from Trinity College London. He is also a committee member of the European Legal English Teachers Association (Euleta)
Chinese Links
Because of his links with the Chinese community in Britain, through his wife Yuat-Peng, he also undertakes English and citizenship teaching for Chinese people seeking British residency.
